Under his leadership, the movement, which includes prominent scientists and diplomats, holds conferences and publishes the results of its scientific and practical research in the form of bulletins.
Currently, Anton Gromyko is a Professor at the Faculty of World Politics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University and a Chief researcher at the Institute of International Security Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In recent years, he has published two monographs devoted to the events of the second half of the XX century, Soviet and Russian foreign policy and diplomacy.
A. A. Gromyko is the author of 40 individual monographs and pamphlets, about 300 articles, reviews in scientific publications, in Russian and foreign periodicals. His scientific activity is characterized by addressing new and poorly researched problems. This can be seen in the example of his published monographs and articles.
His first book, published in 1957 at the age of 25, was the work "The US Congress-Elections, Organization, Powers".
For the first time in Soviet scientific literature, the author assessed the role of the US Congress as an important body of political power and a state mechanism. Based on this book, A. A. Gromyko defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Legal Sciences at MGIMO in 1958.
In 1958, under the pseudonym G. Anatolyev, he published the work" For the improvement of relations between the USSR and the USA", published in mass circulation.
In 1968, A. A. Gromyko published the monograph "1036 days of President Kennedy". For the first time in Soviet science, he conducted an analysis of the nature of power and foreign policy of the John F. Kennedy administration. The book became a bestseller and received favorable reviews in the Soviet and American press. On the same topic, in 1985, in collaboration with A. A. Kokoshin, he published the book "The Kennedy Brothers"in mass circulation.
A notable work of the scientist was the monograph "Conflict in Southern Africa" published in 1979. In it, the author gave an analysis of the situation in South Africa and Namibia, predicted the coming to power of the national liberation forces and the collapse of apartheid in South Africa.
In 1984, A. Gromyko co-authored with V. Lomeyko the book "New Thinking in the Nuclear Age". This innovative work was awarded the V. Vorovsky Prize. The book received positive reviews, including from the writer Chingiz Aitmatov, as well as the well-known political figure and scientist G. Shakhnazarov.
The result of many years of work of the scientist was a unique book "Masks and sculpture of Tropical Africa", published in 1984 with a circulation of 25 thousand copies. by Iskusstvo Publishing House. The author carried out field research on the African continent, talked with African sculptors and wood carvers. A. Gromyko studied the aesthetic principles of traditional art and the diversity of its styles. Today, this book has become a bibliographic rarity.
A. A. Gromyko has done and still does a lot of work on creating creative teams whose task is to carry out large-scale scientific research on international problems. He is a responsible editor of dozens of collective monographs and collections. In 1986, under his editorship, the two-volume encyclopedia Africa (second edition) was published.
A. Gromyko was one of the first Soviet scientists to organize and author a number of joint works with American and African researchers on topical issues of our time. Such prominent politicians and scientists as former Mexican President Luis Echeverria, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Robert McNamara, and Professor Richard Sklar were involved in these works. Together with the American professor Martin Helman, he became the organizer, director and editor of the collective work of 30 Soviet, American and Western European scientists. In this fundamental work, scientists analyzed the ways to save humanity from a nuclear catastrophe and, in particular, the change in political thinking in the modern world. The book " Breakthrough. The formation of new thinking" was published in the USSR and the USA (in English) in a large circulation.
Another example of a new way of working was a joint project of the Institute of Africa of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Center for International and Strategic Studies of the University of California (Los Angeles). In 1990, a joint work of Soviet, African and American scientists was published - "Agenda for Action. African - Soviet - U.S. Cooperation". It explored specific areas of Soviet-American cooperation for Africa. The book was published in the United States and Great Britain.
In 1989, A. A. Gromyko held the V All-Union Conference of Africanists and published a number of articles on new approaches to the study of Africa. In 1989, at the General Meeting of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, he criticized stereotypes in the approach to social progress, in particular, the outdated statement about the correspondence of production relations to the nature and level of development of the productive forces. A. Gromyko made a report on the situation in Africa and prospects for the development of Soviet-African relations at the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1991, A. A. Gromyko published an article "Karl Marx - Africa - the Socialist Idea" in the magazine "Vostok". It noted that Marxism in Africa has not produced quick and effective results, and there are many reasons for this. The main one is the discrepancy between a number of provisions of Marxism and the realities of life.
In the 1990s, a prominent place in the life of the scientist was occupied by cooperation with the Moroccan Academy of Sciences, where, on the recommendation of the famous French historian Maurice Druon, he was awarded the title of academician. At the sessions of this Academy, he made 14 reports, which were published in its publications. King Hassan II of Morocco met with the scientist and awarded him a high order.
In 1997, A. A. Gromyko published the book "Andrey Gromyko. In the labyrinths of the Kremlin", and in 2009 - the book "Andrey Gromyko. The flight of his arrow." In these works, a wide panorama of the events of the XX century is highlighted on a large factual basis. Based on conversations with my father, the "golden rules" of diplomacy are outlined. The reasons why A. A. Gromyko nominated M. S. Gorbachev for the post of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU are given.
In recent years, A. A. Gromyko has paid great attention to the history of the UN's creation, determining its place in international relations, emphasizing the need to protect the UN's authority and its very existence from attempts to destroy this organization. Articles and interviews on the UN are published in Russia and abroad, including in the Russian Parliament's journal Rossiyskaya Federatsiya Segodnya.
Since 2010, A. A. Gromyko has been teaching MSU students a special course on the history and activities of the United Nations at the current stage of international relations development. He criticizes the attempts of supporters of the right-of-force policy to weaken the UN and free itself from the restrictions provided for in its Charter. In his opinion, this democratic planetary organization needs to be reformed when necessary, but not broken down, which would distort the principles of its activities. A. Gromyko is convinced that the UN is the basis for maintaining peace and stability in international relations. The author believes that the world "should be ruled by the force of law, not the law of force."
In May 2011, at the XI Likhachev International Readings in St. Petersburg, A. Gromyko delivered a report on ways to strengthen global stability and build an architecture of international security, security for all. In his opinion, a new global democratic rule of law and a culture of peace should be developed and strengthened in world affairs.
