International Clown Week
International Clown Week: Seven Days of Laughter, Light, and HumanityAugust 1st. The calendar marks the height of summer, heat, and vacations. But for millions of people around the world, this date means more than just another day on the calendar. It's the beginning of International Clown Week — seven days dedicated to those who bring us smiles even when we are sad. Those who step onto the stage in bright wigs and red noses to make us forget our troubles and feel like children. But clowns are not just about the circus. It's a philosophy, an art, and surprisingly, serious work that requires talent, courage, and a huge heart. International Clown Week is a celebration that reminds us that laughter is not just an emotion, it's a medicine.History of the Celebration: From America to the WorldThe history of International Clown Week began not in the circus, but in the corridors of power. In the 1950s, American clowns began to unofficially celebrate the first week of August as \"Clown Week.\" However, the idea of making the celebration official came later. In 1966, President of the American Clown Club Ray Bickford appointed the first chairperson of International Clown Week. And in 1967, club members appealed to congressmen and senators to declare July 21-27 as National Clown Week. Lobbying continued for several years. Clowns met with Senator John McClellan of Arkansas, who headed the subcommittee on holidays and commemorations. On October 8, 1970, the US Congress passed a joint resolution, and on August 2, 1971, President Richard Nixon signed a law declaring the first week of August as National Clown Week. Over time, the celebration spread beyond the United States and became international. Today, it is celebrated in many countries around the world, honoring representatives of one of the most challenging and beautiful professions in the art of the circus.Clowns: More Than Just JokesBeing a clown is not just about wearing a bright costume, wig, and red nose.
