Theoutstanding achievements of Soviet antiquity studies in the study of the socio-economic history of ancient Rome are inextricably linked with the name of V. I. Kuzishchin. Already in his first major article " On the prevalence of latifundia in Italy "(VDI. 1957. In a series of monographs published later, he gave an in-depth analysis of the features of agriculture in ancient Italy " Essays on the history of agriculture in Italy. II century BC-I century AD", Moscow, 1966), proved the leading role of the Roman slave villa of medium size as the main economic unit and showed how great was the importance of the peasant economy ("Roman slave estate. II century BC-I century AD", Moscow, 1973), traced the formation and features of large and large farms ("The genesis of slave-owning latifundia in Italy (II century BC - I century AD)", Moscow, 1976). The result of these studies was the monograph " Ancient classical slavery as an economic system "(Moscow, 1990). The main works of V. I. Kuzishchin's works were reprinted in Italian and became widely known and well-deserved recognition among the foreign scientific community as well.
For 27 years, V. I. Kuzishchin has been the head of the Department of Ancient World History at the Moscow State University Faculty of History, providing training for qualified historians of antiquity and Orientalism.
