This year marks the 10th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of the monthly bulletin of abstract and analytical information "Russia and the Muslim World", founded by the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The first issue of the bulletin was published in July 1992 in two languages-Russian and English. The Russian edition of the bulletin is published in the volume of 10 printed pages, with a circulation of 400 copies. The volume of the English edition is 4 printed pages, and its circulation is 220-250 copies, most of which are sent to various foreign countries in exchange for foreign books and magazines received by the institute library.
The bulletin publishes both original author's articles by Oriental scholars and abstracts of previously published materials in various publications, including the journals Svobodnaya Mysl, Vostok, Asia and Africa Today, Ethnographic Review, and other periodicals.
In addition to theoretical research, the bulletin often publishes materials about state, religious and public figures of various Muslim countries, as well as interviews with them on the most important issues of our time. Reviews of published books and various reference materials are published here.
The bulletin's pages discuss political, sociological and cultural processes taking place in all regions of the world where followers of the religion of Allah live. Of course, first of all, we discuss the situation that is developing in various regions of the Russian Federation where Muslims live (Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chechnya, Dagestan and other North Caucasian autonomous regions), the relations that exist between Russia and the now independent and sovereign states of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) and Transcaucasia (Azerbaijan), and also analyzes the relations of Russia with numerous Muslim states and communities located on a vast territory stretching from North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt) through the countries of the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Yemen, Jordan, Oman, etc.), the countries of South Asia (Pakistan India, Bangladesh) up to the countries of Southeast Asia (Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, where a large number of supporters of Islam live). The bulletin is highly regarded in scientific circles. On the occasion of the publication of the 100th issue of this publication, Director of the Institute of Africa, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.M. Vasiliev called the bulletin "a kind of pilot that helps to understand the kaleidoscope of events, names and facts related to the vast Muslim world that stretches from the African continent to the Far East and".
After the tragic events of September 11 last year in the United States, the bulletin regularly publishes materials on the fight against international terrorism.
The editors ' attention is mainly focused on the interrelation and relationship between religion and politics, on how certain political forces use religious ideas and feelings of believers to involve them in active political activities.
