Vinegar in household use
Vinegar is perhaps the most undervalued product in the home. Its acidic smell repels many, but those who know the value of cleanliness keep not one bottle on the shelf. Table vinegar (9%), apple cider vinegar, wine vinegar, white spirit vinegar — each is good for its purpose. It disinfects, dissolves grease, kills mold, removes limescale, and can even replace expensive fabric softener. And all this for a few cents. In 2026, when eco-friendliness and economy become the main trends, vinegar is experiencing a renaissance. We tell you how to use it wisely and without damaging the equipment.Removing Limescale in Kettles and Coffee MachinesLimescale is the enemy of heating elements. Vinegar deals with it better than many commercial products. For the kettle: mix water and 9% vinegar in a 2:1 ratio (for severe limescale — 1:1). Fill the kettle, boil, leave for 2-3 hours (or overnight). Then pour out, rinse thoroughly, and boil with clean water 2-3 times to remove the smell. For the coffee machine: dilute vinegar with water 1:1, run through a cycle without coffee, then 2 cycles with clean water. Important: do not use vinegar for aluminum kettles (it will discolor), only for stainless steel, glass, and ceramics.Cleaning Washing Machines and DishwashersWashing machine: pour 100-200 ml of 9% vinegar into the detergent compartment. Run an empty wash cycle at the maximum temperature (60-90°C) without laundry. Vinegar will remove limescale from the heating element, mold from the seal, and eliminate unpleasant odors. After the cycle, wipe the seal. For the dishwasher: place a glass of vinegar on the top shelf, run an empty cycle at a high temperature. Shine and cleanliness guaranteed. Do not do this more than once every 1-2 months to avoid eating away the rubber seals.Eliminating Mold and MildewBlack mold in the corners of the bathroom, on silicone seams, under the sink. Spray undiluted 9% vinegar from a spray bottle, leave for 30-60 minutes, then scrub with a brush. Vinegar kills ... Read more
