The feast of the Circumcision of the Lord, celebrated by the Orthodox Church on January 14 (January 1 according to the old style), is one of the most paradoxical and difficult to interpret for modern man. An event that seems to be purely Jewish ritual, associated with a physical procedure, is built into the Christian calendar immediately after Christmas and before Baptism.
