Indonesia is not just a point on the map, it is an entire world contained within an archipelago. Its culture is a multi-layered pie, each layer soaked in history, religion, and the amazing ability to coexist with different peoples. For a traveler, Indonesia is a kaleidoscope of experiences, for an expatriate, a school of patience and discovery. A Country of a Thousand Cultures Indonesia is made up of over 17 thousand islands, home to approximately 280 million people belonging to more than 300 ethnic groups. The Javanese are the most numerous group (about 40% of the population), followed by the Sundanese, Malays, Bataks, Minangkabaus, and many other peoples.
